ASTRAKHAN STATE CONSERVATOIRE

Astrakhan State Conservatoire is the leading musical institute of a peculiar multi-ethnical region of Russian Federation. Students from different countries, varying from Byelorussia to Far East, study at the Conservatoire. Many of its graduates work not only within the territory of the former USSR, but also abroad: in Great Britain, Israel, Canada, the USA, Italy, Denmark, countries of former Yugoslavia; they receive honorary degrees of distinguished artists, become laureates of prestigious prizes at international contests and festivals.

Creative enthusiasm has been the hallmark of the Conservatoire since its foundation (first students graduated from the Conservatoire in 1976). Professors of the performance departments tour a lot in the Volga region, in the Caucasus and other parts of Russia.

Creative groups make the city concert life more interesting and they have visible influence on level of concert life in Astrakhan. Symphony orchestra, orchestra of Russian national instruments, opera studio, teachers and students` “Skiff” ensemble, “Nata Bene Trio”, violin and viola ensembles have won international acclaim.

The Conservatory serves also as research centre for new teaching methods: national and international scientific conferences dedicated to the problems of art history and liberal education, methodical seminars, traditional Olympiads, and contest for students from the musical schools are held here. Professors of the Conservatoire make reports on the international symposiums, congresses, conferences not only in Russia, but also abroad.
