Аlexander Mikhailov is an Honored Artist of Russia and Associate Professor of Saint-Petersburg Conservatoire.

He graduated from the Leningrad Conservatoire in 1980, where he studied with the prof. Ivanov. While studying he worked in the orchestra at Kirov (Marinsky) Opera and Ballet Theater. In 1982–1989 — timpanist in the Academic Symphony Orchestra.In 1989 became an honored artist of Saint-Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra. Since 1985 he has been working in Saint-Petersburg Conservatoire.

Now Alexander Mikhailov heads Percussion Section in the Orchestral Instruments Department. He is also the member of the Organizing Committee and chairman of the jury of the percussion section for Rimsky-Korsakov National (2000) and International (2005) Percussion and Wind Instruments Contest.
