Mikhail GANTVARG (violin)

Мikhail Gantvarg, People’s artist of Russia, professor, artistic director of “Soloists of St. Petersburg” Chamber Ensemble, graduated from the Leningrad Conservatoire and completed his postgraduate studies in 1972. He worked as an accompanist in the Academic Symphony Orchestra of the Leningrad Philharmonic. Won a prize at the Paganini International Competition in Italy (1967) and pursued a successful performing career giving recitals in the US, Germany, Italy, Hungary, Czechoslovakia and other countries.

He created the unique string group — “Soloists of St. Petersburg” Chamber Ensemble in 1987.

He performs as a soloist and conductor in many cities of Russia, in the USA, Spain, Germany, France, Italy, Yugoslavia, Finland, Sweden and Luxembourg.

In cooperation with Russian and foreign companies, Mikhail Gantvarg has recorded 40 CDs, containing all piano and violin Mozart concerts, instrumental cycles by Vivaldi, concerts for violin with orchestra by Shostakovich, Sibelius, Haydn, Bach. He is participating in many prestigious international festivals.
