Alexander Titov is Honored Artist of Russia. He graduated from the Leningrad Conservatoire (1976, 1981) majoring in choral conducting (class of Prof. A. Mikhailov), piano (class of Prof. V. Gensler) and orchestral conducting (class of Prof. I. Mussin). He was a prizewinner of the Min On International Competition in Tokyo in 1988. In 1990 he took a postgraduate course in Tanglewood, USA.

He assisted G. Rozhdestvensky and M. Rostropovich in a number of international musical projects. In 1987 A. Titov began teaching at the St. Petersburg Conservatoire’s orchestral conducting department (since 1993 as assistant professor). Since 1991 he has worked for the Mariinsky Opera and Ballet Theatre as conductor. He is currently a guest conductor of the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow and the Scotland BBC Orchestra.

A. Titov has toured in Great Britain, Germany, Holland, Japan, Italy, the USA, Brazil, Columbia, Latvia and other countries and has made appearances in the world’s leading opera theatres. He has recorded over 70 CDs. The conductor’s repertoire includes classical symphony music, oratorios, as well as Russian avant-garde music and works by contemporary composers. He is a constant participant of various international music festivals.

A. Titov is the recipient of the Golden Masque Prize (2001), St. Petersburg’s highest prize in theatrical arts Golden Soffit for the best conductor’s work (2002), and the Fortissimo Prize initiated by the St. Petersburg Conservatoire (2003).
